The Indigenous Student Services Centre (ISSC) is dedicated to providing a supportive environment that fosters academic success, personal growth, and cultural pride amongst Indigenous students studying at The University of Winnipeg through a variety of academic and support services.
Your ongoing or one-time gift to the Indigenous Student Services Centre Fund will:
- Support cultural activities such as feasts, Sweatlodge ceremonies, cultural workshops and wellness activities.
- Provide hygiene products to students who may otherwise go without, ensuring they can maintain their dignity and health.
- Provide emergency food security through gift cards, emergency food, and supplies to students in crisis, so they do not have to choose between eating and paying for other essential expenses.
Donations can be made online, by payroll deduction, returning a pledge form, emailing Sr. Development Officer Kali Prieur at development.uwf@uwinnipeg.ca, or by calling (204) 786-9995.
As the cost of living continues to rise, students are facing unprecedented challenges, particularly in the areas of food security and access to basic necessities. These challenges are exacerbated by broader systemic issues that disproportionately affect Indigenous communities, including higher rates of poverty and food insecurity. With your help, we can alleviate the financial burdens faced by our students, allowing them to focus on their studies and their cultural and personal growth.
“When I entered university directly out of high school I knew nothing about how university operated. It was a much a larger school that had entirely new teaching methods that intimidated me as a new student. During my first year, I found the ISSC and it completely changed my university experience. Through academic support, peer, mentor, and elder support, to cultural activities like medicine picking and beading as well as readily available smudging, the ISSC has provided me and so many other Indigenous students at the University of WInnipeg with an irreplaceable support system and community. Now, as i enter my fourth year I can confidently say I could not have done it without the help of the Indigenous Students Services Centre and their incredibly supportive staff.” - Abigail Alexander
