Winnipeg, MB – The Sir William Stephenson and Dr. and Mrs. Roderick Hunter Scholarships are an esteemed pair of awards reserved for the University of Winnipeg’s (UWinnipeg) most talented student leaders and volunteers.
Boasting over six decades of history and a rich compliment of successful recipients between the two, these prestigious awards are presented to just four students each year. Those hoping to receive either award are tasked with presenting their case to a panel of trustees, who evaluate their academic record, volunteer history, letters of recommendation, and leadership beyond the classroom.
“The Hunter and Stephenson scholarships are two of the largest awards we help administer each year,” says Javier Schwersensky, President and CEO of the University of Winnipeg Foundation. “A share of $25,000 is on offer to the students we invite to compete, each bringing with them a host of skills that deserve to be recognized. I’m always amazed by the caliber of those our trustees select as recipients, and I want to congratulate the four students selected this year on a job well done.”
This year, Esmé Franck and Adi Keynan were awarded the Sir William Stephenson Scholarships, while the Dr. and Mrs. Roderick Hunter Scholarships went to Kyra Hodges and Taylor Cangemi. A talented cross-section of UWinnipeg’s student body, each of these four recipients is in their final year of study and eager to begin the next step in their academic journey. “Being recognized for my leadership and volunteerism through this award feels both amazing and very humbling—the fact that I’m able to count myself as part of this special cohort of students who were selected for this scholarship based on their own unique blend of merit means a great deal to me in my final year at the university.” says Hodges.
