A Legacy of Generosity: Walter John Schroeder Honoured with the Order of Manitoba  Blog

Walter John Schroeder, a name already etched in the hearts of many across Manitoba, was among the 12 exceptional individuals selected to receive the prestigious Order of Manitoba today.

Born and raised with strong roots in the community, Schroeder built his success through hard work, business acumen, and a passion for uplifting others. Yet it is not just his accomplishments in the world of business that define him; it is his unwavering commitment to giving back. A long-time supporter of education, Walter has championed countless initiatives, with one of his most notable recent contributions being a $1.25 million donation to the University of Winnipeg’s Ozhitoon Onji Peenjiiee – Build From Within program.

This program, aimed at empowering Indigenous and inner-city youth to become teachers in their own communities, resonated deeply with Schroeder’s values.

“Education is the foundation of strong communities,” said Schroeder. “By supporting young leaders, we invest in a better future for everyone.”

His generous gift will help ensure that aspiring educators receive the resources, mentorship, and opportunities they need to succeed that will create ripple effects of positive change for generations. His appointment to the Order celebrates the ideals he embodies—compassion, vision, and the belief that everyone deserves the chance to thrive.

From all of us at the University of Winnipeg Foundation, congratulations on receiving the Order of Manitoba. Your remarkable contributions to education and your tireless support for our community inspire us all.
