For those of you interested in College basketball, March is a hectic month. Admittedly, I won’t be able to cast even a modest guess as to who will come out on top of the 68 teams. However, what I am able to talk about with confidence is our own university’s “March Matchness”—a limited time opportunity for our community of donors to maximize their generosity through the provincial fund matching program.

As part of their initiative to strengthen student support in the midst of this pandemic, the provincial government has agreed to match each private dollar raised by post-secondary institutions at a 1:1 ratio. What does this mean for our donors? From now until closing day on March 31st, you can double the impact your donation makes. No matter how big or how small, your contribution will end up going the extra mile in support of immediate-use scholarships and bursaries at UWinnipeg. For any donor looking to maximize their giving potential, now is the time to take your shot and make your dollars go twice as far! As per-usual, tax receipts will be provided for all gifts made during this time.

What does this opportunity mean for you? For starters, your gift helps strengthen our awards program at a critical time when more students find themselves applying for financial aid. Those enrolled in our online classrooms are already tasked with the challenge of learning remotely in addition to the financial burdens associated with COVID-19. Support from our dedicated community of donors ensures that fewer students are left without the help they need. By making full use of the matching dollars the province has offered us, I know we’ll be able to cover students across every bracket!

While I’m not willing to take my chances on the free-throw line, I can say with certainty that this coming month is the month to make a difference. Taking the time to donate and be a part of this initiative is about doubling our impact—signaling to our hardworking students that our community of donors is right behind them during these challenging times. I hope that you’ll consider making a donation during this unique opportunity.

Javier & the University of Winnipeg Foundation Team
